Are you referring to the codecs that came with Vista, or just 3rd party packs added after the installation of the operating system? What steps would one take in Vista to remove them? The normal software uninstall of 3rd party packs?

Does your recommended package have an uninstall feature that totally removes it? Is it free of adware and spyware?

I mean remove all 3rd party codecs through the normal remove options.

And yes the recommended codec pack is free of adware and spyware, it is one of the most highly recommended codec packs around.

Ok I intalled the codec above and it still stops responding at 2.2% of the encoding...why the heck hasn't microsoft fixed this issue yet????

I tried to install this codec and I'm getting an unidentified error when I try to run it.  I uninstalled all 3rd party codecs already.  This is the most frustrating thingI have ever encountered!  I'm going to switch to a mac

To tell the truth, I don't like codec packs. Could you specify what codecs do I need to get this thing work? I have ffdshow and I guess that if Windows Media Player can play my video I want to burn, it should work.

I totally agree. This support sucks. I get an error when I use the dvd maker. I get told codecs are the problem. I try to download them and I get another error! I think microsoft needs to debug this stuff before they get it out. They'd have a lot less pissed off people ranting on here. Microsoft is really not on top of it here.

i got to make one dvd and now when I get to 1.3% I get an "unspecified error" or the program stops working, this is completely frustrating Microsoft really need to address this issue.

The URL you linked to lists the Codecs OS as XP 64bit, not Vista. Not sure if that's a typo but worth mentioning.

Also, could you comment on these codecs?

hi i dont know if this involves codecs but i tried burning a dvd from my computer and there was a large green band across the whole screen which kinda makes the movie not able to watch... any reason why.

i worked for  hours on a movie and i saved it and shut down my computer and  to later burn it off!

and when it came back i tryed to open it and i keep getting this message:

"Error Loading Dvd Maker Project File"

"The Foreground video file is not accessible. The setting has been cleared."

How do i fix this there is no settings bar or tab? i need to fix it!

I have had a similar problem with "Error loading DVD maker project file" - my problem is the background video (not the foreground) - what was your solution to this problem?  I have all these projects that I am not able to open?  Thanks for any assistance

hey guyz.. i downloaded the 32 bit vista codec pack to burn video files (e.g. *.divx) as a DVD by s/w WINDOWS DVD MAKER. but when it comes to processing and trying to burn it gives message ERROR WHILE BURNING THE DVD.
Please help it out.. i used previously this same s/w and worked correctly. PLEASE HELP ME.

I am having serious trouble with dvd maker.  I am using windows movie maker to edit a short project and then am adding in music for a soundtrack.  The playback is perfect but when I burn it to dvd using windows dvd maker the soundtrack isnt lining up to the movie.  Why is this?  Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

Alright, all this seems so comfusing to me.  Yet I think it should be simple.  I can not find any file in my list of programs (control panel, then uninstall/change) that has any appearance of a codec or codec pack.  So I am at a loss as how I can uninstall the codec to begin with.  However, I am getting the shutdown at .3% into the encoding process and the DEP messege.  So I suppose my question would be: do I not have a codec at all?  Is that even possible?  I just got this computer on the 3rd of this month.  It's a Dell XPS ONE and have the Vista Premium.  I was so excited to get it.  Now it's been bumming me out.  Losing all my musing on my Ipod and not wanting to burn movies.  Can someone tell me where else the codec may be found if I might have one on this computer?  Then how to fix the issue.  Thanks so much.  I'm getting miffed with it all.

Installing Nero or MPC star player codecs will cause Windows DVD Maker to crash;

WHAT THE FREAK?! This dvd maker is ticking me off. If it's the only thing that will burn a Windows Movie Maker movie, then why won't it? It's all good till I hit the "next" button that goes to the menu styles, and then it just sits there. That silly little circle going round and round and round, just mocking me. I let it sit there for over an hour...nothing. Then when I ty to close it, it freezes up. As far as codecs and stuff...well...I'm no computer genius and I have no clue what the heck ur talking about. Why are all these forums and blogs geared towards those that already know this stuff? Speak "pc dummy" language for me...lol!! PLease help me! I have to have 6 copies of this video out by Friday!!!

Oh...and I don't have Nero or any other burning program on here. Nor have I dnloaded any codec packs. I've tried closing my anti-virus, disconnecting from the internet, and making sure no other programs are running. I've done everything I have found on the net...except those things I don't understand...which in actuality is quite a lot, but like I said..no genius here. Even called HP tech...HA! I knew more than she did. <silent aneurism>

I have read the above threads and find it incredible that Microsoft seem to accept their software does not work.
I am a simple PC 'user' - I don't know what a codec is! I have put together photographs of my son's wedding and added music - the project sits there exactly how I want it - until I press the BURN button and I get the 'DVD Burner Not Found' message - as do thousands of others.
Can some-one give me step by step instructions how to solve this, without introducing other problems? Alternatively, can you recommend other software, free preferably, that will do the same job.

I've got windows 7 and I've converted 1 file to dvd and it worked ok, but when i try to convert another file (avi) when i preview it its all ok, but when i burn the dvd there is no sound. help, i've tried everything.

Hi I am running into the same problem I have a new laptop that has windows 7.I use the windows dvd maker that came with it.I was burning avi movies and they played great.Then for no reason when I burn the same avi movies then play them after there is no sound?I have done nothen diffrent for this to happen?What do I need to do to get the sound to work when the dvd is done being burned?Thanks...
