Mpg video file doesn't show up..Only wmv!!

Why do my .mpg files from my camcorder not show up on the menu..although it will play...it is just a black screen on the menu page and scene pages. When I use .wmv file it shows up just fine! If I convert my video files to .wmv with a converter than all works fine. Is there any way to to get around having to convert ALL my files??

My experience with DVD Maker (like Movie Maker) is that it will not handle .mpg files properly and reliably; so I routinely convert mine to a compatible file type.  It is time consuming I agree.  I guess if I were going to do this 'for a living', I would look for another movie making program, one that works with .mpg.

Video commonly refers to several storage formats for moving pictures: digital video formats, including Blu-ray Disc, DVD, QuickTime, and MPEG-4; and analog videotapes, including VHS and Betamax. Video can be recorded and transmitted in various physical media: in magnetic tape when recorded as PAL or NTSC electric signals by video cameras, or in MPEG-4 or DV digital media when recorded by digital cameras.
