Controlling scenes and DVD chapters

I coach high school football and am responsible for creating the DVD of the game footage each week. We have a Sony camcorder.

We would like every play to become a chapter on the DVD as it makes navigating through the plays very easy. However, we would like the top level menu to only have 3 scenes (offense, defense, and specials) which would be pointers to the first play of that type on the DVD.

With the Sony PMB software, each play is a chapter when I burn a DVD. But I can't seem to do anything with the menus to create the 3 "pointers". With the Windows DVD Maker software, I can get the 3 pointers by using it in combination with WLMM but then I can't get the plays as individual chapters.

Is there a solution? Do I need to pony up for better software? If so, what do you recommend that won't break the bank?

Question about burning files

Simple question i have. When i make my movie i first edit it in Windows movie maker then save it to a folder on an external hard drive then it adds it to the Windows DVD maker i customize the menu and everything but what i was wondering is since i saved the project on my external hard drive, if i un plug that external hard drive will it continue to burn the DVD without any problems?

Dvd stops encoding-says decoding programs are needed

I need help, every time this movie is being encoded to a dvd it stops at .7% and it says make sure you have decoding programs installed on your computer.

I need to know what programs are best for fixing the movie, the best for decoding or encoding(programs) so it can be burned with no errors. (doesn't matter if program costs money or not)

BTW its only one movie tha'ts having problems and its in avi. format.

Mpg video file doesn't show up..Only wmv!!

Why do my .mpg files from my camcorder not show up on the menu..although it will play...it is just a black screen on the menu page and scene pages. When I use .wmv file it shows up just fine! If I convert my video files to .wmv with a converter than all works fine. Is there any way to to get around having to convert ALL my files??

Where can I find the latest updates for DVD Maker?
I got my laptop quite some time ago, maybe 6 months and I'm still using the DVD Maker that came with it. I assume that there have been upgrades since.

And, I am making a DVD for my basketball team full of highlights, etc.
Is there anyway that I can make the DVD's burn faster?

I notice that it takes about 1-1.5 hours for each DVD.

Created DVD film plays back with small screen

When I create a DVD film with Windows DVD Maker, the DVD plays back with a much smaller screen, even with 16.9 widescreen setting. If I add a 'menu/intro' this plays back at full screen, but the main film doesn't!

However, if I import the film into Windows Movie Maker first, add it to the Storyboard, and Publish it selecting DVD, this takes me into Windows DVD Maker. Then, if I continue as before, with all the same settings, the film comes out full screen. Is there a fault with the system?

How to make 16:9 DVD's???

Hi,

I made a movie with windows moviemaker (pictures-show). I set the option to 16:9. When I look at the example it looks fine. I then publish my movie to DVD. In DVD maker I see that it is also set to 16:9. The example is also fine. When I watch the DVD on my widescreen TV, the pictures are stretched because the DVD is in 4:3.

How can I make 16:9 DVD's of my pictures???

Add text to each picture?

Seems only to happen when I'm burning axxo files where the folder name has 'AC3' in it.

The menu works perfectly (there's video) but when I press 'Play' there's just a blank black screen.

Any help would be great! Thankyou.

Video Compression

I've captured video from my camcorder into 2 files and total length is about 3 hours. I want to burn both files on a single dvd disc but WDM is complaining that it won't fit. I have even re-captured the videos to where the file size is 4 gig but getting same error message. I've used Nero before and it gave me an option to make it "fit to disc". The sacrifice would be the quality of course. How can I make the video fit into one disc using WDM besides cutting video? Does WDM only care about the length of the video instead of the file size? Any help is much appreciated.

How to make a more compatable dvd using windows dvd maker OR a single layer disk that runs > 150 minutes

This is not a tutorial on how to use or obtain the programs involved but rather a method.

You will need 4 pieces of software to do this.

1. Windows DVD Maker
2. Virtual CD v9
3. DVD Shrink 3.2
4. ImgBurn
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Set up/install the following programs and Set up Virtual CD to include a virtual burner.

2. In Windows DVD maker you will select the virtual burner as the output.

3. In the system tray of Virtual CD tell it (right click) to create and insert a DVD-R/+R/+R DL (one of the three depending
on your actual media, try to match it. If the movie runs greater than 150 minutes you will have to use the DVD+R DL)

3. Finish the creation in Windows DVD Maker as you normally would.

4. When it is finished creating the image you will then insert it into the virtual drive, and run DVD Shrink.

5. Using DVD Shrink you will make a Backup (DVD image) that has compatibility with older DVD players. (As well as shrink
a Dual Layer disk to a Single Layer Size if needed)

6. When finished you can right click the output Backup (DVD image) and tell your computer to burn using ImgBurn.

7. CLEANUP
When the burning has finished go and clean up.
Left click system tray of Virtual CD going to cd management and delete the image files.
Go to the folder with the back up made by DVD Shrink and delete those as well.

Any Questions feel free to ask, this took me a bit to figure out myself (as vcd burning hasnt been implemented yet)
