windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

HI, someone please help!!!!!! I have a gateway with windows vista and I have been using the windows dvd maker and then suddenly it stopped working. It will get to 99% and then give me the message that it cannot complete the burning process due to an error but it don't tell me what the error is. If someon knows how to help me please let me know. Thanks

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

Having the exact problem droopy, I read that windows dvd maker and windows movie maker are linked and that if you go into movie maker and select tools at the top of the screen, then options, and then de-select divX and Xvid options it should help it. It worked for the guy who posted that tip but not me! Another guy said that if you set the burner speed to slow it goes past 99%, again that didn't work for me, so now I'm stumped and more than a little pissed off! If I find anymore options I'll post them here

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

I have an e-machine with the exact same problem.  I have burned DVD's before with no problem.  All of them were pictures from my computer that I put music in.  Not like it was a copy of a DVD - I used the DVD maker for every aspect of it.  This just started a couple of weeks ago.  I have tried it several times, each time with a new DV-R and it does it every time - it gets to 98.8 or 99% complete, kicks out the DVD and says that it cannot burn it.  If anyone knows what to do to fix it, please let me know!  Please please please.

    Thanks,

    Laura

OK Still having this problem.  I tried cutting down the length of the video, changing the amount of photographs - still no luck.  I arranged it both ways - with DVD Maker and with Movie Maker.  Can't burn it to DVD at all.  I can burn it to CD and play it with Windows Media Player.  Does anyone have any answers to this problem?

You may want to slow your burn speed down to medium. You can do by clicking on the options link in the right corner. Some lower brands of DVDs function (write better) at slower speeds, especially at the end during finalizing (98.0-99.0%).

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

I also have a gateway and worked on this problem for over a month.  WHAT FINALLY WORKED was taking the advice from a posting on the Microsoft Tech Net Forums.  This guy said some high school kid at Fry’s told him to use Fuji DVDs.  I was using a cheaper brand “Staples”.  Since I started using Fuji's I have not had any problem with burning a DVD using Windows DVD Maker.  Praise the Lord! I don't know what other disk manufacturers work and don't work but at least I know what I'm doing from now on.

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

    It is not bad/cheap media!!!

Just to prove a point i installed Virtual CD which has a virtual burner... So I am burning to a virtual DVD+R... and can you guess what happened? It got stuck at 99.0%. This has something to do with M$. They need to release a patch for this.

I have tried to use cheap maxell DVD and sometimes it burned and sometimes it did not and stuck at 99.0%. I then ran out of Maxell DVD+Rs and bought some Sony DVD+Rs and the same exact thing happened.

When I burned on Maxell useing ImgBurn I got 100% results. So don't even tell me it is bad media.

The only reason I want to use Windoes DVD Maker is because I like the Bandwith DVD menu. Is there anyother DVD making software that has a Menu like that???

One other thing... I get the 99.0% error then instead of asking me if I want to burn another disc I have to re-encode the entire dvd again which takes hours!!!!!!!!!!!

A first place to start is to see if you have incompatible source (video and/or audio)  files.  Try this URL:

    http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/MovieMaker/File_type_compatibility.htm

Another trick that sometimes works is to uncheck the boxes in Movie Maker| Tools| Options| Compatibility.

    I am burning wmv so that is not the problem and I already have the compatibility thing unchecked. Even tried slow, medium, and fast burning speed with no difference. Disabled anti-virus... everything besides using a diferent burning app... but no others have the bandwith type menu :{

One experiment that can help shed light on the problem: try burning one of the Sample Videos that come with Vista.  C: | Users| Public| Public Videos| Sample Videos.  There are three, the bear, the butterfly, and the lake.  If you are able to burn one of these, then there is a problem with your files.  They are very short videos and will go fast.  You may have to waste a DVD blank, but the information will be valuable to you.

I had the same problem. I've tried everything installed new driver updates, unchecked compatabilty boxes in movie maker, deleted registry stuff. And after all week of yanking out my hair and cursing dell and microsoft out my solution was to use a different media. i was using staples dvd-r discs and comp usa dvd-r discs.now i use memorex dvd-r discs works like a charm.

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

For the record I burn hundreds of DVD's - always DVD-R - home made comp 2 years old AMD 2X4800  2gb RAM 64 Vista 64 gives no problems .. AMD computer rarely online ... New comp Intel DC T7500 2GB RAM Vista 64 ...this comp online frequently ...takes 12/13hrs to encode ...

glad to see I'm not the only one

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

I'm having the same problems. Whenever I try to burn a dvd that's over 2 1/2 hours long it will burn to 99% then it will say cannot create dvd because an error occurred. I don't get it.  Maybe I need to get a better brand of blank dvd's.

Re: windows dvd makers stops burning at 99%

I do hope MS staff observe this thread.

I also encountered this problem when I ran out of (cheap, rubbish DVD-Rs) and replenished with some (dearer, branded) DVD-Rs only to find that WDM spat the dummy writing to this media, even though (a) the project wrote to other media previously and (b) other writing software can successfully write to the same media. With source material and the media conclusively ruled out as being at fault, WDM is the culprit.

Right now I'm actually more pissed off that this program handles the process so poorly such that any error in burning infers having to go through the entire (lengthier) encoding process again from scratch. Where's the write to file option to avoid this?! So inefficient it's laughable. Shame really, as in other respects I quite like the software.

Sadly, my time is too valuable to wait so many hours for each attempt so I will have to purchase some additional software that can at least complete the required job in a timely fashion.

    Shame.
