    Can somebody tell me why

ok first off My laptops specs are:
    2gb Ram
    160gb hdd
    1.83ghz dual core processor
    ATI radeon X1400 g'card

im also running vista home premium

Can someone tell me why encoding a fil takes about 3 hours :-|

and why windows dvd maker consumes my hard drive?

I am burning 2 video files to a dvd for my dad that take up no more than 700mb in their avi files. Why it has consumed about 15gb so far is beyond me. Maybe it doesnt delete previous encoded files? Can you tell me how to stop it eating my hdd as i have about 2gb left and have gotten rid of everything that I can spare.

    Cheers

and hi my names Craig - First post =D

YES, i have the same problem with the amount of space the program uses. Everyone says it automatically deletes the files yet this won't work for me.  It's NOT deleting the files.  DId you figure out where the files were being stored?

The way I discovered what happens with my DVD maker files was to change the 'Temporary file location' found at the Options screen.  Then I could look at the files before DVD Maker closed and then after it closed.  I verified that the files did disappear upon closing.

no offense, but thats not the same for me.  i have three computers burning dvds, computer A and B work fine, they delete it automatically.  Computer C does not, after the burn disk is completed i've lost about 1.75 gigs, and it has to be the DVD MAker because there was absolutely no other program being run at the time.  Any thoughts?

Not beyond the suggestion I made about verifiying the existence & disappearance (or persistence, in your case) of the relevant files by changing the Temporary file location.

Another test is to try to burn one of the Sample Videos that are in the Public Videos folder to see if it exhibits the same behavior.
