Windows DVD Maker Sucks... Here's Reasons why

So my colleagues wanted to create a DVD with pics from the annual company party that will loop on the projector for this year. Simple enough right???

I didn't want to crack open Adobe Encore CS4 and do a Hollywood quality job, just something simple that with take about 150 pics, put it in a slideshow, 10 second intervals, random transitions, no background music no menu, continuous loop. So I though Windows DVD Maker would be suitable but was sadly mistaken.

I, like many other users on this forum get to render for one hour and get to "98.7%" and it fails (I would prefer it to die at 0.7% and know instantly). Even worse, it would delete all temporary files, not offer a realistic explanation and I would have to start from scratch. Many attempts... many failures. I even changed the temp directory, slowed down the burn speed only to get the same result.

What else is bad about this software is the jerky playback of the Preview. I've even read about the elite few who have managed to burn a disk, you either can't playback on set top DVD players or it plays 5 minutes and freezes.

Ranted to a colleague about it, and he mentioned Windows Photo Story, did the same result I want and faster with no failure. (What a smack in the face) ;-(

Yes it does suck, but its free.  The program does not explain the problem and the solution.  It really feels like a freeware program, but most freeware has some assistant in fixing the problem.

A program that works great with pictures is My Slide Show Gold 2.  You can have background music, convert it to a VCD or a DVD and the play back is perfect.  It's cheap and you can even try it on a trial basis.  Windows DVD maker is terrible.

Video commonly refers to several storage formats for moving pictures: digital video formats, including Blu-ray Disc, DVD, QuickTime, and MPEG-4; and analog videotapes, including VHS and Betamax. Video can be recorded and transmitted in various physical media: in magnetic tape when recorded as PAL or NTSC electric signals by video cameras, or in MPEG-4 or DV digital media when recorded by digital cameras.
