Hi, I've created a DVD using Windows 7 DVD Maker. I also want to save my high definition versions of the movies I used to create the DVD to the same disc in another folder so that I can watch either standard def in a normal dvd player, or stick in my computer and play the high def version.
It seemed like a easy enough idea since a movie dvd is just a specific file system. Since DVD Maker finalizes the disc, I burned my dvd using DVD Maker and verified that it worked perfectly in my regular DVD player and computer as well. Then I took that disc and copied the contents (the VIDEO_TS folder) back to my hard drive and then copied both that folder and my high def folder to a new dvd.
The new DVD works perfectly in my computer... even playing it as a movie dvd. When I stick the it in my TV's DVD player, most of the disc works fine... main menu, notes, and playing the disc from the beginning seem to work fine. However when I go to the "Scenes" menu, it's broken. The highlight that shows what scene you're picking flashes only briefly once at the beginning and disappears - you can't select anything or go back to the main menu. The audio of the background video doesn't start till late. And in like 10 seconds, everything freezes, the dvd player becomes inoperable and the only thing I can do is eject the disc and start over.
I've tried this 4 or 5 times with different discs, looking to make sure that I was viewing/copying any hidden files... didn't see any, and trying to make the discs exactly the same. Most of the tries, I didn't even try to add anything. I simply copied the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard drive and then copied it back to a blank a disc. I even made sure the discs was "mastered" and not an "open file system". Finally, I tried using a RW DVD, making the initial working DVD from DVD Maker, and then copying another small file onto the DVD (which Windows will do and just remaster the disc). That actually works. But I need to use a dual layer DVD to house all the high def content too... and those don't come in RW form (and I wouldn't want a RW final disc either). So it's not like having additional content causes problems. All I need to do is copy the contents of one DVD to another.
Does anyone have any idea on what I'm missing? Is there some special property I have to set or something else I have to do to make this work?
Thx!
